Dr. Barbara Sturm Touches Down in L.A. With a Game-Changing New Spa

Dr. Barbara Sturm, the German molecular scientist behind the infamous “vampire facial” (beloved by the likes of Kim Kardashian West and Gwyneth Paltrow), is on something of a world takeover. Her eponymous medical-chic products can be spotted on the carefully curated vanities of It girls across the globe, and just last year her Düsseldorf flagship was joined by a New York City outpost. Now, after years of searching for the pitch-perfect storefront, she is finally bringing her services to the West Coast with a new boutique and spa in Los Angeles’s West Hollywood.

Of course, the City of Angels is a natural fit for the skin-care guru, whose treatments have long been an awards season go-to. “I think it’s where trends are made and trends are found,” muses Sturm, who recently relocated to a home high up in Beverly Hills—a stone’s throw from her new North Almont Drive brick-and-mortar. To wit, the sprawling space—which boasts five treatment rooms, two infrared saunas, and a showroom (complete with free-floating hand-washing basins) designed by her brother, the architect Tobias Freytag—will be the testing ground for her newest service: a revitalizing scalp massage, which is offered alongside classic protocols such as a 45-minute glow-inducing facial and a next-gen lifting treatment that combines acupressure and microneedling.

Should any Angeleno not be ready to venture outside of their homes just yet, Sturm’s A-team of estheticians will continue to offer virtual consultations, while a concierge service will now deliver her signature goodies (including her new professional-grade line) straight to any L.A. door. “Our ideas of what we need in life are changing.” Sturm concedes. “What definitely hasn’t changed,” she continues, “is the idea that we still want to have maintenance in certain areas.” Consider it beauty for a new age—and who better than Dr. Sturm to lead the charge?
