The movement really kicked off in 2018 thanks to labels such as Jacquemus, who proposed we carry around bags big enough only to fit a card wallet and maybe a lip gloss, and the idea hasn’t fizzled out just yet. Rocking a micro bag isn’t just a look—it’s become a lifestyle, and one that challenges us to streamline what we cart around with us on the daily. It’s especially a hit with celebrities. Now, however, superstar Ariana Grande is taking the itty-bitty look to another accessory. Enter the micro backpack.
Backpacks are, in essence, functional. They’re essential for students, who have to cart around laptops, notepads, and giant water bottles for class. But Grande stepped out in Beverly Hills, California this weekend and made the case for the tiny backpack being purely a fashion accessory. Worn cross-body, the Positions singer sported a micro Louis Vuitton backpack, finished in the French fashion house’s signature monogram print. She styled it in a classically Grande way, with an oversized sweater (worn as a dress), laced-up thigh-high boots, and oversized sunglasses. In its miniature size, the bag is more of a statement piece than a practical one. But it is decidedly roomier than a mini purse: inside, you could fit a regular wallet, keys, and dare I say, even your phone! I guess it’s officially time to say “thank you, next” to tiny purses and “yuh” to tiny backpacks.
